I'm a joiner!

The last week has been pretty uneventful. I have been working on transferring my RN and NP license (which I just got in the mail- YAY!) from California to Arkansas, which is quite the ordeal. I have had to go to about 5 different places, fax a bunch of different documents, mail lots of checks and money orders and fill out pages and pages of information. The highlight was going to the police station to get fingerprinted. Lucas had never seen a real policeman or policewoman up close and he was awestruck. It was pretty cute! I am almost done with the applications, just one money order left to obtain and I am done! Then I guess it takes about 2 months to process, so I should be eligible for gainful PNP employment around Halloween. I am planning on taking my certification board exam in October as well. What this all means that I have a lot of time on my hands these days, so I have been trying to find things to keep me busy. In the last few days, I joined a gym, joined a mother's group and might have even found a friend!

There are pretty much only 2 gyms here, World Gym and Fuse Fitness. Fuse is fancier and more expensive, and locally owned. World Gym is the cheaper chain. Guess which one I chose? The fancy one, of course! But really, it is absolutely beautiful. The cardio equipment all has TV screens the size of a regular laptop screen and everything is shiny and new. The locker rooms are more decorated than my house (which isn't saying much given its current state). There is mouthwash, lotion, blowdryers and curling irons in the bathroom, and free towels! A far cry from the 24 hour fitness in Richmond. The gym does a fitness evaluation on all new members, and I had mine this morning. Wow, pretty depressing! They rank everything from flexibility to muscle strength to body fat from "poor" to "elite athlete". I completely flunked the flexibility test, and was at the very bottom of "poor". The trainer even asked me if I wanted to repeat the test, like maybe I wasn't trying hard enough to touch my toes the first time. I declined. The only part I did pretty well on was the muscle strength- my biceps are showing the results of lugging around an almost 30 pound person all the time. At the end of the session they give you your fitness age. You are supposed to be at or younger than your chronological age. I am a fitness age of 30. Dang.

I also joined a mom's group here. It is called NWA Hip Mamas. (NWA=Northwest Arkansas). There was no group called NWA Edgy Mamas, you know I would have been all over that, but I guess Hip will have to do. There are 50 women in the group and they hold events several times a week, but each member is only expected to attend 1-2 events per month. We are going to a playdate at the park later this week. I have no idea what to expect but hopefully there will be some cool women there.

The most exciting thing that has happened this week was that I scored some digits! Lucas and I were at a park yesterday and I started talking with a nice woman with a 4 year old and 15 month old boy. She was very nice and we exchanged phone numbers. We may go swimming together later this week! I feel so nervous, like a first date.

The weather has shifted here. It is only 84 degrees right now- it feels so cool and breezy! There is a trailhead one block from our house that has connections to all sorts of pretty nice hiking trails. We went a few miles on Sunday and had a nice time. Since it has cooled down so much I think Lucas, Tank and I are going to take another walk later today. Last time we saw some deer, a frog and lots of bugs. I am still hoping for my first live armadillo sighting.

As I am sure you have surmised, I don't have a lot of exciting updates so I will end this boring blog post. In addition to being a bit boring today, I am also tired. Lucas is still on a sleep-in-his-crib strike and has been ending up in our bed earlier and earlier each night. Last night it was 9:45! Good thing we got the California King!

Allright Californians- shop at Trader Joe's, buy some organic fruit, look at the ocean and wear a jacket for me! Miss you all!
